Brief History of Aadhar

The idea of Unique Identification that is was introduced in the year 2006 in India. After a discussion among officials, it was approved as a Unique identification for Below the poverty line people in 2006. It was supposed to be a way to help the poor get the benefits of schemes launched by the government for them. But at that time to get the benefits of these schemes, one needed to visit the government offices several times and fill up forms specific to that scheme. This endless process used to repeat itself any time the government launched a new scheme. To ease their burden, The Unique Identification Authority of India was created to help with managing all the tasks related to this later in 2009. The name Aadhaar Card was given by the authority’s head Nandan Nilekani in the same year.

The Aadhaar card is the world’s largest identity platform. They first started issuing them in September 2010. Now, we use it for various things like getting a new mobile number, opening a bank account, birth proof for official forms, and address proof. As you may know that the eligibility age to get yourself is above 5 years, due to the high usage of Aadhaar across institutions, the Unique Identification Authority of India introduced Baal Aadhar will be colored blue for kids between newborn to 5 years old in the nation. This contains only the photo and the birth details of the children. No biometrics details. Once the child is over 5 years the Baal will no longer be valID. Child will have to give the biometrics data to get the Aadhaar. Which will be linked with the parent’s Aadhar in the future.

This app was launched by The Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) for people who want to store their Aadhar card virtually in an official app and this app also gives access to all the services provided on the website. 

How To Change Address in Aadhaar Card

According to the guidelines issued by UIDAI, a person can apply for a change in address on their Aadhaar twice during their lifetime. Two main methods exist to change the address on the Aadhaar card. Here are the methods.

How to Change Address in Aadhaar Card Online – method

How to change address in Aadhar card online. This method is useful to those who have registered a phone number linked to their Aadhaar card. A phone number is required because you’ll get the One-time-password on that to log in. 

First, you need to visit the To log in you must put the 12-digit number of your Aadhar card in the designated column and then One-time-password after receiving it. Then you’ll be required to fill in a new address in the form. After filling up the details you need to tap on submit and then upload a softcopy of the address proof.

Valid address proofs are

  • Recent Electricity Bill (Not older than 3 months)
  • Recent Water bill(Not older than 3 months)
  • The ration card was issued to the address you want to change it to
  • Gas Connection Bill (Not older than 3 months)
  • Property Tax Receipt(Not older than 1 year)
  • School ID Card
  • NREGA Job Card
  • Bhamashah Card.
  • Freedom Fighter Card.
  • Pensioner Card
  • Kissan Passbook
  • For rural areas- You can use the certificate issued by the panchayat of the village.
  • Government Id cards etc. can be used as an address proof

But if you do not own the place you live in, then, in that case, you can use the bills as proof to change the address, you have to visit your local MLA and get a signed proof of residency at the place you are currently living or change the address to. You can also attach a soft copy of the lease agreement for the address proof. But that agreement shouldn’t be a notary one. A notary agreement is a way in which people make the agreement locally on a stamp paper. Get it signed by a person who is a Public Notary which gives the lease agreement legitimacy but that is not admissible proof, according to the UIDAI. Hence, it needs to be a registered lease agreement.

How to check aadhar card status- Online Method

After the process you’ll be given an Enrolment ID which is used to check the status of your request. To do so, go to the website again and tap on my aadhar menu. Select the ‘check aadhar update status’ option. You’ll then see the section to fill in the SRN or The enrollment ID, fill in the option and tap on submitting to see the status. It can take up to 90 days for the update to get published.

Offline methodHow to Change Address in Aadhaar Card

You need to visit the Aadhaar card Enrolment/Update to update your address. These centers are open across India for people who prefer to do things offline or do not have the facility to change them online.

  • These centers can be located by either calling the Aadhaar’s helpline number 1947. Pressing the required numbers and choosing the correct options you can reach the customer care executive and tell them your postal codes and they can suggest to you which one is the nearest to you.  
  • You can also search for the Enrolment/ update center on their digital portal at Uidai. You just need to go to the website then tap on my Aadhar option then tap on the option of enrollment center and choose the option by which you want to locate the centers. After filling/choosing the area you can pick the nearest center to get your address changed

After reaching the center you can just use the address changing form at the window. Fill in the details in it and attach a hard copy of the address proof of your choice and submit it. After completing the submission you’ll be given an acknowledgment slip in which you can see some basic details Enrollment ID and the Service Request Number which you can use to check the aadhar card status by calling on the Aadhar helpline number. It generally takes up to 90 days for the changes to reflect on your Aadhar card.
